What are Auto Hauling or Car Tie Down Straps

Our auto-hauling straps are heavy-duty ratchet straps designed for the transport of a vehicle. These straps keep your vehicle cargo stable and avoid too much movement during transportation. Car trailer straps are designed to be attached to the underside of a car, like its axles, or around its wheels. Whether that be over the wheel or the underside of your car, our straps will provide the best automotive vehicle securement. Search our inventory online and make sure that your vehicle tie-down straps have the right specifications to haul your cars. If you’re still not sure, contact our customer service representatives at 1-888-705-8277 for any questions.

Auto Hauling Strap

Furthermore, our auto hauler tie down straps are designed to haul cars. They’re made from industrial grade, polyester webbing. This material makes it resistant to tears and high abrasion, waterproof, corrosion-resistant ratchets, and strong enough to withstand vehicles like an SUV. Our tire straps for a car hauler even feature snap or flat hooks, making it easy to provide securement for your vehicles.

Let’s check out the different types of car hauler tie down straps Mytee Products offers:

Wheel Straps With Adjustable Nets

Wheel Straps, also known as Lasso Wheel Straps, are circular wheel tie-downs that wrap around the car’s wheel. They mainly use an 8-point securement method that provides plenty of protection for your car. The vehicle you’re hauling or towing won’t be damaged.

Furthermore, Wheel Straps are mainly used on a flatbed trailer, a tow truck, or an enclosed semi-truck. They even come equipped with several different end-fittings to further enhance your auto securement.

  • Single Strap Side Mount Wheel Net: Also, some Lasso Wheel Straps can be installed using one anchor point. In greater detail, Single Strap Side Mount Wheel Nets use a 2″ cargo strap that loops through a ring and around the tire, securing your vehicle.

  • Dual Strap Side Mount Wheel Net: On the other hand, some Wheel Straps offer two anchor points for each wheel. Two straps are wrapped around the tire at 3 different points. Either ratchets or cam buckles can be latched onto the horizontal strap of the tire net that has a loop. Now all you have to do is ratchet the straps, adding tension, so that the vehicle remains in place over your truck trailer.

Axle Straps

The other car trailer tie down straps we have in stock are Axle Straps. They loop around the axle of a vehicle to secure it. Also, Axle Straps are only compatible with the anchor points on the floor of your truck bed. Most come equipped with snap hooks, but you can use any end fitting.

  • Axle Strap With A Floating D-Ring: This style boosts lightweight but durable construction. The 2″x8″ ratchet axle strap also features a D-ring that can be moved to any location on the straps and provides optimal protection for your vehicle. It features snap hooks on either end, has a WLL of 3,333 lbs, and a breaking strength of 10,000 lbs.

Over the Wheel Straps

On the other hand, our Over-The-Wheel Straps wrap around the wheel of your vehicle. They have two anchor points that are only compatible with the anchor points on the floor of your truck bed, like E-Tracks. Though, you should follow the DOT regulations to use at least four points to secure your vehicle to your truck.

Furthermore, Over-The-Wheel Straps are mostly used by specialty car carriers and auto-hauling trucks. We offer two of our most popular styles, the Over-The-Wheel Strap for an E-Track and a Replacement Strap without a ratcheting mechanism.

  • Over-The-Wheel-Strap For An E-Track: Our 2″ x 10′ strap comes with a wealth of features, such as E-Track end fittings and a WLL of 3,333 lbs. This strap also comes with 3 rubber blocks that fit onto the E-track Rails as well.

It can support up to 10,000 lbs of cars and comes with 2 swivel J hooks and 3 rubber blocks to provide optimal security over your vehicle.

Tow Dolly Straps

The fourth popular car trailer tie-down straps we sell are Tow Dolly Straps. These wheel tie-down straps have several straps that criss-cross over each other, creating a basket appearance. This design provides better securement over your car’s tires as it’s being towed on a dolly trailer. Only the two front wheels are secured to the trailer, while the back tires are rolled along the road. These straps may not provide the same level of protection as the other car hauler tie-down straps but they’re still pretty sturdy. This auto-hauler used Mytee Products’ Eight-point tie-down kit to move his luxury Porsche. It arrived scratch-free in perfect condition.

How To Choose The Right Auto-Hauling Straps

The Vehicle Type

When it comes to choosing the right car tie-down straps, you have to consider factors like the type of vehicle you’re hauling. This determines everything from the size of the straps and even how many anchor points it’ll need. Not to mention, certain vehicles may need over the tire tie-down straps while others require Axle Tire Straps.

The Weight Of Your Vehicles

In addition to the type of vehicle you’re hauling, you must also factor in the combined weight of your cars. The working load limits and breaking strengths printed on your straps will tell you if they can support the weight of your vehicle or not.

The Regulations

Speaking of staying safe, make sure that your chosen straps are compliant with the local and federal laws for safe auto hauling. Disregarding the regulations could land you in the hospital or pay a hefty police fine.

Maintenance & Safety Tips

Inspecting Your Straps

While our straps come with a long-lasting guarantee, that doesn’t mean you don’t need to maintain them. At some point, they may develop a tear or scratch. The best way to deal with these issues is to patch up the cuts in your straps, to prevent further damage. Using a car tie down strap that’s torn can lead a vehicle to fall off your trailer and cause a life-threatening accident.

Using Your Straps Safely

Misusing your tire straps for a car hauler is also a mistake you want to avoid. Each strap style must be installed differently. While Tow Dolly Straps go over the front wheels of the car, Axle Straps must be connected to the front and rear axles of the vehicle. A few other mistakes to avoid are attaching your tire straps to the steering wheel, a brake line, or the wires. Any one of these components can break under the pressure of your straps, damaging the car.
