FMCSA Bans Usage of 5 ELDs, Gives Motor Carriers 60 Days To Replace

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has banned five electronic logging devices (ELDs) from their approved list of devices – giving fleets up to 60 days to replace them.

As of Friday, October 17, 2025, these five devices have been revoked from allowance due to failure to meet minimum technology requirements, according to the FMCSA

According to the FMCSA, the banned devices are as follows:

  • ELD Provider: ART KILIM INC
    ELD Name: PREMIUM ELD
    Model Number: PMM
    ELD Identifier: PMM492
  • ELD Provider: Clean Aura Corp
    ELD Name: TRUE LOGBOOK
    Model Number: 2TRUL
    ELD Identifier: TRL584
  • ELD Provider: Xplore Tech Inc.
    ELD Name: Xplore ELD
    Model Number: XPLELD
    ELD Identifier: XPLORE
  • ELD Provider: KAMI ELD
    ELD Name: KAMI ELD
    Model Number: KAME-X456
    ELD Identifier: KAM683
  • ELD Provider: Evo ELD Inc.
    ELD Name: EVO ELD 1
    Model Number EVO 1
    ELD Identifier: G711H2

What is an ELD?

ELDs record driving time and other engine-related information automatically when drivers install them in commercial vehicles. These devices help drivers and fleets accurately track Hours of Service (HoS) and comply with FMCSA regulations. In essence, ELD devices synchronize with the vehicle’s engine to record driving time, movement, location, and provide an interface for drivers to manage their duty status.

Before the industry used technology to track this data, regulators standardized paper logs. Today, when issues with ELDs arise, such as malfunctions or non-compliance, we recommend that drivers revert to these paper logs.

What Now?

The FMCSA is recommending immediate removal of the non-compliant devices from vehicles and to replace them with compliant electronic devices from the Registered Devices List or traditional paper ELD backup logs.

According to the FMCSA news release, before December 16, 2025, safety officials will not cite drivers for using the revoked ELDs, however drivers will be asked for their paper logs or logging software. On or after December 16, 2025, “motor carriers who continue to use the revoked devices listed above will be considered as operating without an ELD.”
