3-Inch Ratchet Straps for Cargo Securement

In order to secure your cargo properly, you need to make sure you have enough straps to do it right. Keep the working load limits of your straps in mind and add more straps if necessary to prevent your equipment from failing. Depending on what kind of tie-down points are already installed on your trailer, you might need a specific end fitting on your strap to keep things properly secured. Once you know what kind of end hardware you need, It’s time to get everything in place.

Attach the end fitting on the strap to a tie-down point on your trailer. While keeping the strap straight and flat, lay it over your cargo and bring it to your other tie-down point. Attach the ratchet portion to the point, and make sure the ratchet is flat and that the mechanism opens up and away from you. Run the endless portion of the strap through the ratchet and pull it all the way through until nothing else can be pulled through. Finally, ratchet the strap down until there's little to no resistance on the strap. Fold the excess strap into the ratchet handle.

3-Inch Ratchet Straps with Flat Hook

A flat hook is specifically designed to latch onto the rub rails of your trailer. The hook can latch onto your rub rail from the top or bottom and is secured by going over your cargo. These 3-inch flat hooks are coated black to prevent corrosion and rust.

3-Inch Ratchet Straps with Wire Hook

Wire hooks are designed with D-rings and O-rings in mind. The hook itself is made to be strong enough to hold whatever you need in place, while also being versatile enough to latch onto almost any anchor point on your trailer.

3-Inch Ratchet Straps with Chain Anchor

Chain Anchor straps have a chain end fitting that varies in length with an anchor at the end of the chain. These straps are limited in their tie-down points, but because of the combined use of chains and straps, they are among the strongest ratchet straps we carry.

Working Load Limits

For 3-inch straps, no matter if it has a chain, flat, or wire hook end fitting, each strap has a working load limit of 5,000 lbs. It’s important not to confuse working load limits with breaking strengths. A working load limit is a measurement at which the strap works without issue, while the breaking strength is the point at which the strap fails. Continuing to operate above working load limits can increase the chance of equipment failure.
