Moving Blankets

Protecting cargo from damage often means preventing those dings and scratches that tend to result from road vibration and friction between objects. Moving blankets are the perfect tool for the job. Moving blankets are made of thick, fibrous material designed specifically to absorb shock and vibration. They are tear-resistant as well, so there are no worries of sharp edges doing significant damage to the material.

Mytee offers both economy and premium moving blankets at reasonable prices. Check out our moving/filler pads, too. Our moving blankets and pads are ideal for moving companies, truck rental agencies, courier companies, local shippers, and even individual homeowners looking to protect their goods next time they move. Please note we offer discounted prices if you buy 10 or more.

Meaning of Moving Blankets?

Moving blankets, also called moving pads, cargo blankets, or filler pads, are 6-ft by 6.6-ft square covers made of polyester fabric (either woven or unwoven). Moving pads can be draped over or wrapped around an individual piece of cargo, like a motorcycle or rocking chair.

Where are Moving Blankets Typically Used?

Cargo blankets are typically used to protect cargo that could be easily scratched or chipped, like furniture, smaller vehicles, machinery or equipment with delicate parts, or electronics. They absorb minor shocks and vibration during transport that can ding or damage fragile things.

Generally, they’re part of the cargo control process for moving van or semi-trailer drivers. When it’s vital to minimize the movement and the risk that an item might get scratched, moving blankets cover an object before it is secured with tie-down straps.

Flatbed truck drivers also use moving blankets. While they can use the moving pads for the same reason (to protect cargo from scratches), flatbed drivers tend to use thick moving blankets to cover cargo that has sharp or irregular edges.

The flatbed driver reduces the risk of abrasion, wear, and tear that can damage tarps by covering the cargo’s edges with the heavy moving blanket. Cargo tarps can accumulate damage from sharp-edged or irregular loads, and cargo blankets increase the tarps' life spans by preventing that damage.

How to Use Moving Blankets Successfully?

Make sure the blanket completely covers the fragile or sharp-edged load. If the blanket isn’t big enough, make sure the fabric at least creates a soft barrier between the piece of cargo and the points where it touches the tarp, the tie-down, and the wall.

Get a thick moving pad or heavy moving blanket if the item is particularly sharp, so you don’t risk a situation where the cargo jostles and just cuts right through the pad.

The best moving blankets are made of premium, tightly woven polyester fabric. Bargain blankets are made of unwoven polyester, and while they’re great for protecting easily-scratched surfaced, they’re less durable against sharp edges.

Types of Moving Blankets

If you want to buy moving blankets, it’s good to understand the varieties you can choose from. There are three types:

Non-woven Polyester Moving Pads :

These pads are the lightest at only 2.25 lb, and they’re the least shock-absorbent.

Economy Moving Blankets :

These economy moving blankets are also made from unwoven polyester fabric, but at 6 lbs, they’re heavier and more shock-absorbent than the thinnest moving pads.

Premium Woven Moving Blankets :

These cargo woven moving blankets are made of woven polyester fabric for maximum shock-absorbency. They weigh 7 lbs.
